BLUE JAY JAZZ FOUNDATION PRESENTS JAZZ IN BLUE JAY

THE JAZZ MESSENGER

WELCOME TO JAZZ IN BLUE JAY!

As the Blue Jay Jazz Foundation plunges into an exciting 2010 summer concert season, the Foundation Board wants to thank you for your support and being a part of our mission to perpetuate Jazz by presenting live entertainment and jazz education.  By supporting Jazz in Blue Jay you have helped us turn a corner at BJJF.  We have done it by believing in what we are doing, working hard and approaching our work with a positive attitude and a lot of enthusiasm.

Summer got off to a rousing start July 18 with an evening of great jazz, wine and hors d’oeuvres in a spectacular lakefront setting at Lake Arrowhead Resort.  Jazz at the Lake featured the sultry vocals of Blue Jay’s own Sydne & Co.  This well received event marked our freshmen effort in presenting live concerts at the Resort.  Stay tuned for more live Jazz at the Lake.

Much like the genre it celebrates, Jazz in Blue Jay delivers All the Colors of Jazz embracing an array of eras, artists and melodic styles. Whether you’re a first timer or a BJJF Jazz Ambassador, you’ve got the summer’s hottest ticket. Get ready for two evenings of extraordinary jazz up close and personal featuring the hugely talented Greg Adams Band and the sensational Elliot Deutsch Big Band.

The crowd pleasing mega-funky Greg Adams & East Bay Soul is back. This legendary Bay area trumpeter and arranger, best known as a founding member of Tower of Power is on stage August 5 with a hip ten-piece band and an irresistible new blend of high octane jazz, funk, soul and R&B.

The Elliot Deutsch Big Band is one of the most exciting and innovative bands on the jazz scene today. This incredibly tight band comprised of twenty-something musicians swing like the legendary Stan Kenton but with a youthful heat and passion that takes the audience on a wild ride. Catch this highly entertaining act August 12th.

We are thrilled to present Next Generation Jazz 2010 scholarship recipients Jazz Initiative (August 5) and       Chasing Kings (August 12) opening live. The future of jazz is always happening. That’s one of the beautiful things about showcasing aspiring local talent! Co-presented by the Lake Arrowhead Rotary Club this crop of young talent can be described in one word ‘hot’.

At BJJF we do this for fun.  Together we can do great things when we are positive about what we do. If you believe that our efforts and our work are important, please show up and be part of it...all year long. And please help us KEEP JAZZ IN BLUE JAY. BECOME A JAZZ AMBASSADOR TODAY!

We couldn’t do this without you!  From our loyal sponsor the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians,  community partners and Jazz Ambassadors to our foot-tappers, jazz aficionados and party mavens, you are our family and we’ll never forget that. So sit back, enjoy and welcome home.
